Paralakhemundi: Three days after a Royal Bengal Tiger was captured and its pug marks were found in Odisha’s Gajapati district, the Forest department has deployed 40 employees to track the big cat.

Speaking to media persons on Sunday, Assistant Conservator of Forest (ACF) Ashok Kumar Behera said after the camera traps installed in Mahendragiri forest of the district captured the tiger at night on October 19, Forest officials have been deputed to track the wild animal.

Besides, the people of several villages under Gosani and Rayagada blocks have been asked to remain alert and not to approach the tiger if it intrudes into human habitation to prevent any untoward incident.

The tiger was initially sighted in the forest near Santoshpur in the district. “The department has also installed more camera traps in the forest to monitor the movement of the tiger,” Behera said.

It is suspected that the tiger might have migrated from a forest in Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh to Odisha.
