Sundargarh: Around 40 tribal students of a Sevashram School for girls fell due to suspected food poisoning at a village in Bonai block of Odisha’s Sundargarh district.
According to preliminary reports, around 40 students suddenly fell ill at Baidpalli Sevashram in Babunuagaon village in the district on Saturday night after eating dinner on Saturday night.
Of the ailing students, around 30 were shifted to Bonai hospital for treatment after their condition deteriorated. While some students recovered after preliminary treatment and got discharged from the hospital, others are undergoing treatment in the medical facility. Their condition was stated to be stable.
The students complained of nausea, headache, stomach pain and vomiting after which they were rushed to the hospital. It is suspected that serving of stale food at the residential school might have led to food poisoning.
On being informed, officials concerned as well as police personnel visited the hospital to look into the matter. Efforts are on to ascertain the exact cause of illness of students, sources said.
