Bhubaneswar: Police have seized around 400 vehicles for violation of traffic regulations during checking drive in Bhubaneswar in the last four days.
This was stated by Police Commissioner Sanjeeb Panda while speaking to media persons on Sunday. Since traffic enforcement is an important aspect of Safe City drive of the Commissionerate Police of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, strict checking of vehicles including two-wheelers and four-wheelers have been going on for the last few days.
“During the last 4 days of the drive, we have seized 400 vehicles for violation of traffic norms. We have also written to RTO to cancel the driving licence of the offenders. But the violators can release their vehicles after paying the penalty in the court,” he said.
The Commissioner further said the vehicles were seized for violation of norms including drunken driving, driving in wrong lane, using mobile phone while driving, jumping the red light of traffic signal posts and others.
Stating that the enforcement drive would be further strengthened in future to reduce road accidents, He said, “We will focus on use of mobile phones while driving as it has been found that this was leading to accidents in most cases. We will also promote awareness regarding traffic regulations through different mediums.”
“In some cases, it has been found that the drivers take U-turn on sighting the checking by traffic police and manage to flee. In the process, such people resort to rash driving out of panic and cause accidents. In order to prevent this, we have planned to use spikes at the checking points of the road,” Panda said.
