Bhubaneswar: Ahead of the ensuing Assembly elections in four states and Union Territory of Puducherry, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has appointed 43 senior officers of Odisha as the poll observers.
Of the Odisha officers, 22 senior IAS officers have been appointed as the general observers, 12 senior IPS officers as police observers and nine senior Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officials as expenditure observers.
The Commission had a discussion with 43 observers through video-conferencing which was presided by the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Odisha Sushil Kumar Lohani at his office on Wednesday.
As per the schedule, voting in Assam will be held in three phases on March 27, April 1 and April 6, single-phase poll in Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on April 6 and eight-phase poll in West Bengal on March 27, April 1, April 6, April 10, April 17, April 22, April 26 and April 29.
The counting of votes will take place on May 2.
