Bargarh: In a crackdown against betting rackets, 47 people were arrested for their involvement in gambling in different parts of Odisha’s Bargarh district on Wednesday.
Sources said simultaneous raids were carried out across the district and over Rs 94,000 in cash, 40 gambling charts, 52 betting chits, 20 mobile phones, five calculators, and 28 ‘satta’ books were seized during the operation.
The drive against gambling dens operating in the district was launched following an instruction from Superintendent of Police Prahlad Meena. Special teams were formed to carry out the raids across the district.
Maximum number of 8 cases were registered by Bargarh Town police followed by 6 in Attabira police station limit, 5 in Sadar, 3 each in Rural and Barpali police station areas, 2 each in Paikamal and Bijepur, and one each in Jharbandh, Padampur, Bhatli and Melchamunda police station limits.
All the accused have been booked by the police and forwarded to the court.
