New Delhi: A fourth batch of Indian nationals deported from the US arrived at Indira Gandhi International Airport here on Sunday evening.
The group of 12 Indians were flown in from Panama, where they had been deported to from the US.
They landed in New Delhi via Istanbul, on board a Turkish Airlines flight. Four of the deportees were from Punjab, three each from Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. The identities of a couple of persons has not been ascertained yet.
These Indians were among 299 illegal immigrants sent to Panama while attempting to enter American soil.
The Punjab residents were sent to Amritsar on a flight.
It’s not known at this time exactly how many Indians were deported to Panama. Around 300 people arrived in Panama on three planes last week, after President Jose Raul Mulino agreed that Panama would become a ‘bridge’ country for deportees.
Before Sunday, the US deported three groups of Indian nationals, totalling 332 individuals, back to India.
It’s part Donald Trump’s urgent action of deporting millions of undocumented immigrants who entered the US illegally.
