Bhubaneswar: In a special drive, officials of Labour department along with police rescued five adolescent and child labourers from different establishments in Jatni of Odisha’s Khurda district on Thursday.
A team comprising Assistant Labour Officer, Bhubaneswar, District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), police personnel and NGOs participated in the special drive to rescue the minor labourers in Jatni town and its surrounding areas.
They conducted raid on hotels, dhabas, garage and other establishments as part of the drive. During the operation, they rescued two adolescent labourers and three child workers from five establishments in the area.
Later, the rescued persons were produced before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC). Show causes notices have been issued to the establishments which had employed the adolescent and child labourers.
The team also visited around 50 establishments and distributed the leaflets regarding prohibition of child and adolescent labourers.
