Berhampur: Five persons involved in a series of burglaries were arrested and huge quantities of gold and silver seized from them by the police in Odisha’s Berhampur on Tuesday.
The seized items included 805.5 gm gold ornaments and gold biscuits and 2.050 kg silver ornaments and biscuits, which were stolen in different areas during last month, sources said.
The accused persons were identified as S Santosh alias Santu (35), T Bhajan alias Akash (20), T Dillip (19), Serajul Mallik (38) and Koushik Panja (22).
The value of the seized gold ornaments was estimated to be over Rs 40.27 lakh.
Following reports of a series of burglaries at Nimakhandi, Badabazar and Golanthra, a special team headed by SDPO Sadar and comprising IICs of Nimakhandi, Golanthara and Bada Bazar police stations was formed to detect the cases.
After getting information about the accused persons, the team ere apprehended them. Following thorough interrogation, the accused confessed to have committed the crimes.
