Bengaluru: A Bengaluru-bound bus from Vijayapura caught fire on the highway of the Chitradurga district in Karnataka and at least five people were burnt alive in the early hours of Wednesday.
According to information received here, the private bus was ferrying 32 passengers when it caught fire on National Highway 4 at KR Halli in Hiriyur taluk of the district.
Two children and a woman were among the dead. Engine trouble is said to be the reason for the bus to catch fire. Hiriyur SP Radhika visited the accident site.
All injured persons were shifted to a district government hospital. An FIR has been registered by the Hiriyur Police for further probe into the matter.
