Kalahandi: Police have detained five persons for allegedly duping about 60 youths on the pretext of giving them jobs at Chudiharipada in Bhawanipatna of Odisha’s Kalahandi district.
According to sources, the accused persons have taken Rs 22,000 each from these job aspirants. Once the candidates join the job, they are put under house arrest and forced to bring clients to extend the fraud business.
Following a complaint lodged at the Town police station in Bhawanipatna, a raid was conducted on Monday and five persons were detained for interrogation.
“We had come here with a hope to get a good job. But, they are torturing us. We are also not allowed to go home. Someone from the group would accompany us whenever we went out,” said Manish Kumar, a victim who belongs to Bihar.
Soumya Ranjan from Kaktpur in Puri, who also fell prey to this fraud, had managed to flee the house.
An employee of the company, Sushant Jena, however, said that only interested candidates are working here and they are free to go to their homes.
Investigation into the matter is on.
