Bhubaneswar: In a major crackdown against illegal narcotic business, the Commissionerate Police arrested five drug peddlers and seized 42 kg of ganja from their possession in Bhubaneswar on Thursday.
Sources said that police team also seized cash to the tune of Rs 20,000, two mobile phones and three motorcycles from the accused in Maitri Vihar area of the capital city.
Acting on a tip-off; a police team laid a trap near the BMC Wealth Centre at Hatiasuni and waited for the drug peddlers. Soon the five accused arrived the place on two-wheelers and before they could start their deal, the police pounced on them.
The arrested accused have been identified as Dillip Kumar Baral alias Dilua, Jitendra Pradhan alias Munda Jitu, Prakash Khatua alias Mithun, all residents of Saliasahi in Bhubaneswar, and Rabindra Sahoo alias Bapun and Nicklesh Panda alias Papu.
A case has been registered at the Maitri Vihar police station in this connection under Sections 20(b)(ii)(C)/ 29 NDPS Act. All the accused have been forwarded to the court.
