Cuttack: Odisha police have cracked the case of attack on Swami Vivekanand National Institute of Rehabilitation Training and Research (SVNIRTAR) director Shakti Prasad Das and arrested five persons, including prime accused Laxmidhar Mallick, a canteen employee there.
Sources said that Mallick had hired four goons to threaten Shakti Prasad Das. He paid the criminals Rs 35,000 after which they attacked Shakti’s car on July 3. Shakti sustained a head injury after the criminals attacked his vehicle near Kantapada in Cuttack district on the afternoon of July 3.
Soon after the incident, Shakti went to the Olatpur police station and lodged a complaint.
Talking to mediapersons over the phone, Shakti said he was returning from the institute in his official vehicle when he noticed two bike-borne youths following it. Before he could realise what was happening, he was struck by a hard object on his head. Sensing a threat to his life, he drove the vehicle to Olatpur police station and lodged a complaint.
