Jhasuguda: Police in Odisha;s Jharsuguda district have detained five juveniles in connection with the murder of a 19-year-old youth over an alleged stolen silver chain about a week ago.

The deceased has been identified as Sahil Sahis, a resident of Rampur under Brajrajnagar police limits. He went missing on February 1 and his body was recovered four day later from Kukrikani forests. Following which, Brajrajnagar police registered a case of murder and subsequent investigation led them to the suspects, who were his friends.

Elaborating on the sequence of events leading to the murder, police said that Sahil had visi

ted Rampur the previous day with the prime suspect to watch a football match. He went to the minor boy’s house on February 1 suspecting he had stolen his silver chain. The  boy went to meet four friends after being reprimanded by his mother over the matter. Two among them picked Sahil from his house and took him to the forest area, where he and the 16-year-old suspect again got into an argument over the missing silver chain. The boy then struck Sahil on the neck and head with a dagger before strangling him.

He then intimidated the other four into staying silent and took their help to dispose of the body, which was found wrapped in a polythene sheet, near a pond in the forest.
