Bhubaneswar: At least five people were killed and seven others sustained critical injuries after being hit by lightning strikes in different parts of Odisha on Wednesday.
According to sources, the incidents were reported from districts like Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak, and Balasore.
At least three people were killed and around four others sustained critical injuries in lightning strike in Jaleswar area of Balasore districts. The injured persons are undergoing treatment in a nearby hospital and their condition was stated to be critical.
In a similar incident in Mayurbhanj district, a woman died and her daughter was critically injured after being struck by lightning when then had gone to a forest near Singiti village under Utkuda panchayat.
Locals later rescued the girl and rushed her to the hospital where her condition is stated to be critical.
In another incident, a youth died after being struck by lightning in Kherang panchayat in Bhadrak district. The deceased has been identified as Pratap Majhi.
In a similar incident from Bhadrak district, two persons were injured in lightning strike in Mousudha panchayat. They were rushed to the hospital for treatment. Their condition is stated to be critical.
