Puri: Barely 24 hours after a bombing incident in Odisha’s Puri town, police swung into action and arrested five members of a gang of extortionists involved in the crime, and seized several weapons from them.
Those arrested by the police included the leader of the notorious gang, Raja Mallick. Several weapons including four crude bombs, some sharp weapons, two motorcycles and a mobile phone have been seized from them, police said.
A special operation was launched after the bombing incident that took place at a fish market in Goudabada Sahi under the jurisdiction of Seashore Police Station in the town. Raja and his four associates had allegedly resorted to a bomb attack near an eatery over extortion of money, they said.
The gang members had gone underground after committing the crime. However, police formed a special squad to nab the accused persons for unleashing terror in the town. Finally, they succeeded in nabbing all the five, including Raja. Further investigation is in progress.
