5 More Countries Recognize India’s COVID-19 Vaccination Certificate

New Delhi: Britain had expressed reservations about the vaccination certificate being issued by India, delaying its approval for Covishield vaccine. It led India to resort to a tit-for-tat, and imposing strict restrictions on UK nationals travelling to India. But all that is in the past now.

After UK acknowledged the certificate obtained from CoWIN app, five more countries have now recognized the COVID-19 vaccination certificate being issued by India, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Monday.

“Mutual recognition of Covid-19 vaccination certificates continues! Five more recognitions for India’s vaccination certificate, including from Estonia, Kyrgyzstan, State of Palestine, Mauritius and Mongolia,” MEA said on Twitter.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently held a discussion with top world leaders on mutual recognition of vaccination certificate, during his visit to Italy where he attended the G20 summit.

“Issue of vaccination certificate was discussed especially with EU representatives. There was a conversation on mutual recognition of vaccines… a doable mechanism to facilitate easier international travel… Details will be worked out bilaterally,” India’s Foreign secretary Harsh V Shringla had said.

“Fact of the matter is that the point PM (Modi) tried to make (on vaccine certification) has been received. Most countries are quite happy with the idea of facilitating smoother international travel… and feel that we need to collectively work on it,” he stated.

Last month, Hungary and Serbia agreed with India on mutual recognition of COVID-19 vaccination certificates.
