Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police on Sunday launched five more bikes for patrolling to ensure proper traffic management and smooth vehicular movement during the upcoming Durga Puja in the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.
Flagging off the new bikes, Commissioner of Police (CP) Soumendra Priyadarshi said with this addition, the total number of traffic patrol bikes in the fleet has increased to eight as three bikes had been inducted a few days ago.
Priyadarshi said these bike patrol units were introduced as the twin cities would be gearing for Durga Puja after a hiatus of 2 years due to COVID curbs and these smaller enforcement units would help in crowd management.
Of these five additional patrol bikes, two would be deployed in Bhubaneswar and three in Cuttack. The three bikes introduced earlier are already operating in Bhubaneswar, he said.
“In this festive season, it would be difficult for the police to ensure proper traffic management. Therefore, we have added five vehicles apart from three already introduced for Bhubaneswar,” the CP said.
“Cuttack, known for its 52 bazaars and 53 narrow streets, would definitely benefit from the traffic patrol bikes,” he said.
It may be noted that these patrol bikes are equipped with high-end features such as siren-blare, first aid kit and other equipment.
