Berhampur: Police have arrested 5 persons for allegedly duping two businessmen of Rs 28 lakh on the plea of high return on their investment in Berhampur of Odisha’s Ganjam district.
Speaking to media persons on the racket on Tuesday, Berhampur SP Sarvana Vivek M said that the five accused persons had opened the office of a company ‘Trade Profit Fund’ in the city. Recently, two businessmen of Berhampur had approached the company for investment.
The accused convinced them that the company would double the investment and return the total money in few days. Accordingly, the two traders deposited Rs 28 lakh in the company’s office.
A few days after, the accused persons handed over counterfeit notes worth over Rs 40 lakh in cash (8,000 notes of Rs 500 denomination) to the businessmen. Later, the two traders came to know that those were counterfeit notes and filed a complaint at Baidyanathpur police station.
