Bhubaneswar: At least five persons were injured as a truck was involved in a series of accidents on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar on Thursday.
According to sources, the truck going in high speed rammed into a car at Palasuni square in the city in the afternoon. The truck driver lost control over the vehicle following the collision and hit three more cars and a motorcycle going on the National Highway. The driver managed to stop the truck at a distance.
On being informed, a team from Commissionerate Police rushed to the spot. They along with the locals rescued the passengers who were trapped in the cars. They sent the injured persons to the Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar. The car that was first hit by the truck has been badly damaged.
The movement of vehicular traffic on the busy NH was affected due to the accident for several hours. Later, it was restored after the police removed the damaged cars and the truck.
Following the accident, the locals staged a blockade on the National Highway demanding a foot over bridge at Palasuni square which had become prone to accident. They said more than 13 persons had been injured in accidents at the spot in the last 6 months. Though money had been sanctioned from the MPLAD fund, the bridge was not constructed due to negligence by the authorities, they alleged.
