Bhubaneswar: As many as 5 urban places in the state recorded temperature of 40 degree Celsius or more on Thursday.
According to evening bulletin of regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD), here, Balangir continued to be the hottest place in the state with maximum temperature of 41.5 degree Celsius. It had recorded 41.8 degree Celsius on Wednesday.
Balangir was followed by Titlagarh and Boudh with 41 degree Celsius, Jharsuguda 40.3 degree and Bhawanipatna 40 degree Celsius on the day.
The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack recorded 36.2 and 35.8 degree Celsius respectively while sea-side town Gopalpur in Ganjam district reported lowest temperature of 30.4 degree Celsius.
The IMD said the cyclonic circulation over southeast Madhya Pradesh and neighbourhood extending upto 3.1 km above
mean sea level and over southeast Jharkhand and neighbourhood extending upto 1.5 km above mean sea level persists.
It has forecast that there will be no major change in maximum temperature (day temperature) in the state during next 5 days. Maximum temperature is very likely to be above normal by 2 to 3 degree Celsius at a few places in Interior Odisha and more than 40 degree at a few places during the period.
The Met office has issued yellow warning and forecast that thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar and Sundargarh districts in next 12 hours.
