Bhubaneswar: Heatwave condition continued to prevail across Odisha on Wednesday as mercury soared to 43 degree Celsius in as many as 5 places.
The regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD), in its evening bulletin, mentioned that 10 places recorded maximum temperature of 40 degree Celsius or more on the day. The western Odisha town of Sonepur continued to remain the hottest place for second day with a temperature of 44.4 degree Celsius. It had recorded 44.5 degree on Tuesday.
Sonepur was followed by Sambalpur with 43.6 degree, Balangir 43.4, Jharsuguda 43 and Boudh 43 degree. The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack recorded 35.9 degree Celsius and 35.8 degree Celsius respectively.
The IMD has issued yellow warning and forecast thunderstorm and lightning in several districts for next two days. It has forecast that thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur,
Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Gajapati, Ganjam, Khurda, Puri, Nayagarh, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Keonjhar,
Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nawarangpur, Sambalpur and
Jharsuguda districts on Thursday.
Similarly, thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur,
Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Koraput and
Gajapati districts on Friday, the national forecaster said.
On the movement of monsoon, the Met office said conditions are favourable for its further advancement into some more parts of central Arabian Sea, Karnataka, Konkan & Goa, Tamil Nadu, remaining parts of southwest Bay of Bengal, some more parts of Westcentral Bay of Bengal, northeast Bay of Bengal, during next 2 days.
