Sundargarh: Police have arrested five persons for allegedly killing a barking deer in Odisha’s Sundargarh.
As per reports, the Forest officials were informed about movement of some unidentified persons in Roxy forest under Jamudiha forest beat in Koida block of the district on Jharkhand border on Saturday night.
A team of Forest officials led by Koida DFO and range officer conducted a raid in the forest area. They caught 5 persons, suspected to be hunters, skinning a barking deer and cutting its meat.
When the Forest team confronted the five persons, the latter attempted to attack the former with sharp weapons. However, the Forest officials managed to overpower the five persons and arrested them.
The Forest officials also seized a huge quantity of barking deer meat from their possession. Initial investigation revealed that the arrested persons were poachers who used to hunt the wild animals to sell their meat and other body parts.
