Bhubaneswar Civic Body Announces 5% Rebate On Advance Online Payment Of Holding Tax

Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced a 5% rebate for residents and property owners, who pay the holding tax for 2025-26 fiscal in advance and in online mode by April 30.

“Those paying the tax in advance and in online mode via Bhubaneswar.me portal will be entitled to a five per cent rebate,” the BMC stated in a notification.

Seventeen revenue camps have also been set up by the civic body to facilitate payment of holding tax. These camps will function from 10 am to 5 pm on all working day throughout the month of April.

The BMC collected Rs 94 crore from holding/property tax in 2024-25, although it fell short of meeting the target of Rs 100 crore. However, it was Rs 20 crore more than last year. Put up the names of big defaulters, whose dues have exceeded Rs 50 lakh, seemed to have worked for it.

Holding tax is assessed based on the plinth area of a house or building, and there are different slabs for commercial and residential holdings (buildings).

For the 2025-26 financial year, the corporation has set a revenue target of Rs 119.5 crore from holding/ property tax and Rs 15.8 crore from hoardings and advertisements on both government and private land.
