Puri: Five members of a gang of robbers were arrested and some crude bombs and weapons seized from them near Mangalaghat in Odisha’s Puri town on Wednesday.
The arrest was made by a patrolling team of Sadar police when the gang members were planning a robbery in the town. Two crude bombs, swords, iron rods, and other weapons were seized from them, police said.
Acting on a tip-off from the informers, the Puri Sadar Police raided the site closer to the Managalaghat water reservoir. During the raid, five members of the gang members were nabbed.
Further investigation is underway. Blocking and checking have been intensified in suspected places to apprehend the other accomplishes, said Sadar Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Rabi Narayan Bhanja.
The arrested accused were identified as Ashirbad Barad of Nayagarh, Sridhar Jena of Biraharekrushnapur, Jitendra Raut of Girala, Prabhat Baral of Goruala, Sanjay Sundara and Saumayarjan Panda of Nilachakranagar in Puri.
