Bhadrak: Over five students reportedly fell sick while participating in a parade organised on the occasion of the Independence Day at a high school in Basudevpur area of Odisha’s Bhadrak district on Tuesday.
According to sources, the students complained of uneasiness and exertion during the celebrations at Atal Bihari High School located under Basudevpur municipality area in the district. The illness was stated to have been caused by excess heat and humid conditions.
Stating that the parade was organised by the municipality to celebrate the Independence Day, a teacher said that the students had to stand at the venue for a long time amid adverse weather conditions. Several students fell sick apparently due to severe heat and humidity, he said.
The students who fell sick were immediately rushed to the Basudevpur community health centre for treatment. They were provided necessary treatment and their condition was stated to be stable.
A host of dignitaries, including the local MLA, attended the celebrations.
