5 Workers Injured After Blast At Rourkela Steel Plant In Odisha

Rourkela: At least five workers were injured, some critically, in a massive blast in Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) in Odisha on Saturday.

As per preliminary information, the blast took place in the steel melting shop-1 (SMS-1) of the plant in the morning.

Soon after the mishap, the injured workers were rushed to the Ispat General Hospital (IGH) in the city. The condition of some of the injured workers was stated to be critical.

Sources said four of the injured workers are RSP employees while one is a contractual worker.

The exact reason behind the blast is yet to be ascertained. Senior officials of RSP were immediately not available for sharing details. Further details awaited.

Worth mentioning, eight workers had critically injured due to a sudden gas leak during maintenance work at a blast furnace on July 1, this year.
