5-Year-Old Crushed To Death By Falling Chunks Of Concrete From Ceiling

Berhampur: A five-year-old boy died after a concrete slab from the ceiling of his house fell on him.

The incident took place around 2 am at Punanda village in Gothagaon panchayat under Shergad block of Ganjam district when the child was sleeping with his father, mother and brother.

Hearing screams and a loud noise, neighbours rushed to the spot and took the four to Shergad hospital for treatment. However, the five-year-old boy, identified as Priyanshu Nayak, was declared dead by the doctors at the hospital. His father Simanchal Nayak, mother Banita Nayak and brother Himanshu Nayak were later shifted to Hinjili hospital for better treatment.

Receiving information about the mishap, Shergad BDO accompanied by police and other officials reached the village and took stock of the situation.

Locals suspect that the huge portion of the ceiling collapsed due to lack of maintenance.

The house was allotted to Simanchal under Indira Awas Yojana in 2011.
