Cuttack: The POCSO Court, here, has convicted the accused in a rape case that took place 5 years back and awarded Rs 5 lakh compensation to the victim.
Announcing the judgment in the case on Friday, Judge Subash Kumar Behari of the court sentenced 30-year-old accused Alok Dehuri to rigorous imprisonment for 14 years and imposed a fine of Rs 35,000 on him.
The judge directed secretary of the District Legal Services Authority, Cuttack, to ensure payment of the compensation to the victim who was a minor at the time the crime was committed. Special public prosecutor Ramesh Chandra Mohanty appeared in the court for the victim.
As per the case, Dehuri had raped the girl when she was in her school on the day of Saraswati Puja in February, 2016. After her father filed a complaint, the police had arrested the accused.
