Bhubaneswar: In a devastating incident stemming from a domestic dispute, a five-year-old boy reportedly spent an entire night alone in a forest under Kundheigola police limits in Odisha’s Deogarh district, vigilantly guarding his father’s body and his unconscious mother after the couple allegedly consumed poison.

According to sources, the couple, Dushmant Majhi and Rinki Majhi of Jiantapali village, had been visiting the wife’s family and were on their way back when

a heated argument erupted. They parked their motorcycle by the roadside and entered a nearby forested area, where they are believed to have consumed a poisonous substance in an apparent joint suicide attempt.

Tragically, the father succumbed to the poison. The young child, demonstrating remarkable resilience, stayed by his parents’ side through the cold and darkness, protecting them. He came out of the forest the following morning and alerted the passers-by about the incident.

One being informed, police arrived at the scene and rushed them to CHC at Chhendipada in Angul. Doctors declared Dushmant dead on arrival, while Rinki later died while undergoing treatment. The child was also placed under medical care due to suspicions of possible poisoning.

Meanwhile, investigation is underway to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the altercation and the poisoning.
