Bhubaneswar: Around 50 passengers reportedly sustained injuries as Howrah-Chennai Coromandel Express collided with a goods train at Panapana near Bahanaga station in Odisha’s Balasore district on Friday evening.
As per reports, the mishap took place at around 7 pm when the Express train collided with the goods train standing at the station. Though no fatality has been reported initially, at least 50 passengers in the Express train were injured on the impact of the collision.
Following the incident, Railway employees along with security personnel rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation.
The Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has asked the ODRAF to depute a team at Balasore to proceed to the spot for search and rescue immediately. Balasore collector has also been directed to reach the spot to make necessary arrangements and intimate the SRC, if any additional help is required from the state level.
At least 5 ambulances and two Fire teams have been rushed to the spot from Bhadrak. The Railways has issued the emergency control room number 91 6782 262 286 at Balasore.
Doctors from Balasore Medical College have also been sent to attend to the injured patients. Around 10 injured passengers have been admitted in Balasore Medical College.
Meanwhile, on the direction of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, the SRC has left for the accident site to take stock of the situation.
