Bhubaneswar: Around 50 people were stranded in Odisha’s Chilika lake as the boat ferrying them got stuck due to technical snag on Sunday.
According to sources, the mechanised boat left Jahnikuda jetty under Krushnaprasad block of Puri district for Satapada around 3 pm. Around 50 passengers and 20 two-wheelers were going in the boat to cross the lake.
After going for around 3 km, the boat’s motor stopped functioning and it got stuck in the middle of the lake. Later, some fishermen fishing in the area came to know about the incident and went with their country boats to bring the passengers to Satapada.
It may be noted that the people of Satapada and Jahnikuda have to depend on boats to cross the lake. But there have been several instances of the boats getting stranded in the middle of the water.
On December 24 last year, around 40 people going in a mechanised boat from Satapada to Jahnikuda faced similar situation.
