505 Kg Of Ganja Worth Rs 50 Lakh Seized In Odisha’s Koraput In Pre-Poll Crackdown

Koraput: Police on Thursday seized 505 kg of ganja worth over Rs 50 lakh near Hanumal village under Machhakunda police limits in Odisha’s Koraput.

Acting on a tiff, Machhakunda police conducted a raid in a cashew jungle near Hanumal village in Machhakunda and seized ganja packed in 15 polythene bags. However, they were unable to apprehend the ganja mafias as the miscreants managed to escape.

According to police sources, the ganjas weighed 505 kg and 200 grams and the estimated value of the contraband would be Rs 50 lakh.

An investigation has been started.

In another incident in Kuchinda of Odisha’s Sambalpur, a police flying squad seized Rs 5 lakh from a scooter-borne man near the old bus stand of the town. The man was not able to give a satisfactory reply to the police when asked about the source of the cash. He has also been detained.

To check illegal cash movement ahead of the elections, Odisha police have intensified checking of vehicles, especially in the districts bordering other states.
