Bhubaneswar: As many as 51 Bangladeshi infiltrators have so far been identified in different districts of Odisha since the BJP came to power in the state, the state Assembly was informed on Monday.
Sharing this information in a written reply to a question by BJD legislator Goutam Buddha Das in the House, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said that 49 of the 52 identified illegal Bangladeshi immigrants have already been de
ported to their country.
“Since the new government came to power in Odisha, altogether 51 Bangladeshis have been identified in various districts of the state,” Majhi said. The BJP government led by Majhi assumed office on June 12, 2024.
A maximum of 24 Bangladeshi immigrants were identified in Urban Police District (UPD)-Khurda district, 15 from UPD-Cuttack, six from Ganjam district, three from Kandhamal and one from Koraput district were deported to their nation following a legal process.
While 49 of them were repatriated, cases were registered against the other two immigrants (one in Ganjam and another in Kandhamal) for getting Indian passports in their names using fake documents and sent to judicial custody, he said.
Further, the process to identify infiltrators is continuing in Odisha, the CMi added.
