Mumbai: In a joint operation by Delhi Police Special Cell and Gujarat Police, a large-scale drug syndicate was busted and five individuals were arrested, reports based on police sources said on Monday.
Those arrested included the owner and a mediator who had been part of the drug syndicate operating between Gujarat and Delhi-NCR.
The police conducted a joint raid at a drug-related company in Gujarat’s Ankleshwar and seized 518 kilograms of cocaine. The price of the illicit substance in the international market is estimated to be Rs 5,000 crore.
This drug-bust is part of an ongoing investigation which has resulted in the recovery of 1289 kg of cocaine, 40 kg of hydroponic marijuana, reportedly sourced from Thailand. The total value of the seized drugs so far is Rs 13,000 crore in the international market.
According to the police, drugs were manufactured in Gujarat and supplied to a pharmaceutical solutions company in Delhi-NCR, from where the drugs were distributed across Delhi and other locations in India and potentially abroad, too.
Senior officials of Delhi Police termed this recovery as the biggest so far. They believe the group used a complex network of middlemen, companies, and traffickers to procure, manufacture, process, and supply the drugs in India and abroad.
The police have intensified their investigations and are expected to make arrests in this case.
Earlier, on October 2, the Delhi Police Special Cell had seized 550 kg of cocaine valued at over Rs 5000 crore, making it one of the largest drug recoveries in recent history.
