Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police (CP) prosecuted 5188 people for alleged violation of COVID-19 norms in the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack on Thursday.
DCP Bhubaneswar Umashankar Dash tweeted that 19 shops were closed and 2752 people fined for violating COVID-19 guidelines like not wearing a mask and maintaining social distancing in the city.
In Cuttack, 963 persons were fined for gross violation of social distancing and 308 for not wearing masks. Five shops in the Millenium City have also been sealed.
A day after Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik directed Director General of Police (DGP) to ensure strict adherence to COVID-19 guidelines in these cities, where the bulk of new cases are being reported, the Twin City police on Thursday launched a special drive at market places and hotspots areas. Another 50 officers and five platoons of forces have been deployed to tighten the noose around the violators.

Bhubaneswar has been divided into three zones with a DCP in charge to ensure strict enforcement of the guidelines.
Prior to this, Bhubaneswar police had penalised 3872 people for such violations since Saturday.
Bhubaneswar has registered 17,620 cases so far while Cuttack’s cumulative caseload stands at 8720.
