52 Andhra Returnees Sent To Quarantine Centres From Paradip Slum After ‘Attack’ On ASHA

Paradip: The administration sent 52 fishermen, who had returned to Sandhakuda slum here from Visakhapatnam after fishing activity resumed on June 1, to institutional quarantine centres on Wednesday.

There were reports that the returnees had attacked an Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA), who had approached them to shift to quarantine facility as mandated by the government.

Paradip Municipality Executive Officer Dililp Kumar Mohanty, however, refuted the attack reports and said that some returnees had an argument with the ASHA while she was convincing them for quarantine.

The official said that some returnees followed the norms, while a few hesitated. “We have managed to send 45-52 returnees to quarantine centres today,” the official said.

He also appealed to those in such facilities to abide by the guidelines to contain the spread of COVID-19.

“The local administration will seal the slum if the returnees try to violate the quarantine norms,” he added.
