Sundargarh: After 22 first-year MBBS students of VIMSAR-Burla, 53 of a government-aided girl’s high school in Odisha’s Sundargarh have tested positive for COVID-19.
Those found infected were hostel boarders studying in Class VIII, IX and X. They have been isolated and the school shut for a week, the headmistress informed on Tuesday.
COVID test of the students was conducted after the majority of them showed symptoms of cold and cough, she added.
“Swab samples of all 624 students were sent for COVID-19 test after a student contracted the virus on November 19 and 53 among them were found positive. A nurse has been engaged at the school to monitor their health conditions,” said District Education Officer (DEO) Amulya Pradhan.
Notably, nine hostel boarders of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya at Konark in Odisha’s Puri district had also tested positive for the virus on Sunday.
