Puri: The 55th Kumar Utsav was inaugurated at Jajayakash Rangmanch on Puri beach on Monday evening. The event is an innovative attempt to connect the people of Puri, culture lovers and devotees with tradition.
According to sources, the cultural programmes will be held for three days till Wednesday.
The event was inaugurated by senior sevayat Kothari Narayan. Mo College chairperson Akash Dasnayak was invited as the chief guest.
“Many artistes have evolved through this stage. I am thankful to the organisers for continuing this cultural event,” Dasnayak told media persons.
The main attraction of the Kumar festival on Monday was the cultural dance programme “Kayin Ra Priti Re Pagala Janha” directed by Surjit Mohapatra. Adding to it, ‘Bho Shambhu’, ‘Golden Memory’, ‘Bihu Odissi Dance Surya Namaskar’ and ‘Gitinatya Mahalakshmi’ were also performed.
Best Kumar and Best Kumari Awards were given away during the festival.
“I am very happy to receive the prestigious award. I will work hard in future to uphold our culture of Shrikhetra and win prizes in the upcoming events,” Snehasmita Sahoo, a Class IX student of Biswambhar Bidyapitha, told media persons.
Singers Jali Mukherjee, Tilak Chakraborty, Trisha Das, Debanshi Das and Darshana Kar will be the main attraction on Wednesday evening.
