Balangir: Police on Saturday rescued 56 migrant Odia workers near Kantabanji railway station in Odisha’s Balangir district.
Acting on a tip-off, police detained a pick-up van and an auto-rickshaw near the railway station and rescued the migrant workers, including 25 men, 23 women and 8 children.
Police said the rescued migrant workers hailing from Barpali in Bargarh district, Boden and Sinapali in Nuapada district and Muribahal and Chudapali of Balangir district were given an advance of Rs 30,000-Rs 40,000 each by a broker to work in a brick kiln in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh.
Efforts are on to arrest the broker, police added.
