Puri: Secretary to chief minister and 5T VK Pandian took stock of the progress of heritage corridor project in the town during a visit on Saturday.
During a visit to the Pilgrim Town with his family, Pandian went around the project encircling the Jagannath Temple and reviewed the progress with the officials. He also went to the western gate of the temple and inspected the ongoing works.
The government has initiated the Heritage Corridor aiming at redeveloping the surroundings of the 12th century shrine to convert it into an international pilgrim place. The project includes provision of various facilities for the devotees coming for darshan of the deities and the tourists on a visit to the town.
The heritage corridor components are Shree Jagannatha reception centre, amenities and matha temples. It is divided into 9 layers of a green buffer surrounding the temple complex, Antar Pradakshina path, landscape zone; Bahya Pradakshina path; public convenience zone; service lane; shuttle-cum-emergency lane; mixed traffic lane and pedestrian footpath.
