Balasore: A man was arrested in Odisha’s Balasore disttict for allegedly duping several unemployed youths of more than Rs two crore by promising to provide them with jobs in banks and other organisations.
The accused was identified as Ramesh Chandra Padhi of Manitri village under the jurisdiction of Soro police station of the district.
Police sources said that the accused had collected Rs 3-4 lakh each from a large number of youths by giving false assurance of getting them appointed in different banks and government organisations in 2019.
One of the victims Sanjay Kumar Panda, who hails from Chaparpada village of Sajanpur panchayat, reportedly said that he and 21 others resorted to the court of law when they learned about the fraud.
They came to know that all of them had been cheated by the accused, who has reportedly studied only up to class 5th. The accused identified himself as a relative of a top bureaucrat and claimed that he had close links with influential officials.
The victims were subsequently confirmed by the banks that no advertisements were published for recruitment.
At least nine cheating cases are pending in different police stations of Balasore district against Ramesh. cluding one in Keonjhar.
After being arrested, the fraudster was forwarded to a local court on Wednesday.
