Jaipur: The world’s largest national flag made of ‘khadi’ was displayed at Longewala along the India- Pakistan border in Jaisalmer on Saturday to celebrate 74th Indian Army Day.
Longewala was the site of the iconic battle between the two neighbours in 1971 and this is the fifth such public display of the flag since it was unveiled in Leh last year on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises informed.
As many as 70 artisans took 49 days to ready this 225 feet long and 150 feet wide Monumental National Flag, which weighs (approx.) 1400 kg. It covers an area of 33, 750 square feet with the Ashok Chakra measuring a diameter of 30 feet.
A whopping 4500 meters of hand-spun, hand-woven Khadi cotton bunting has been used in making the flag.
