Rayagada: Six persons were killed and two others critically injured when the auto-rickshaw in which they were travelling was hit by a speeding truck at a village near Odisha’s Rayagada on Wednesday.
According to preliminary reports, eight persons from neighbouring Andhra Pradesh had come to Rayagada in a three-wheeler for darshan at Goddess Majhighariani temple in the district. They offered prayers at the temple.
The eight were returning home after paying obeisance at the shrine when the speeding truck dashed against the auto-rickshaw at a village near Rayagada.
While five persons died on the spot, another succumbed to injuries during treatment at hospital.
The injured persons who were first admitted to the district headquarters hospital at Rayagada were later shifted to Visakhapatnam as their condition worsened.
