Cuttack: The Commissionerate of Police arrested six persons involved in a drug peddling racket and seized 233 grams of brown sugar worth around Rs 23 lakh from their possession in the city on Wednesday night.
The arrest was made following a raid in CDA Sector 6 area by a team of Markat Nagar police, said ACP PC Badjena. The arrested persons include two chemist shop owners.
Besides the brown sugar, the police seized 78 strips of N-10 tablets and other sedatives, Rs 31,500 in cash, four motorcycles and six mobile phones from them.
Detailing their operation, the ACP said they used to procure sleeping tablets from chemist shop owners. The powder of those tablets was mixed with that of nitrogen tablets were and brown sugar. The highly intoxicating composition was sold at a very high rate to youths, he added.
All the arrested persons have been booked under the NDPS Act and remanded in judicial custody.
