Cuttack: At least six persons were arrested for allegedly manufacturing and selling firecrackers in an illegal manner ahead of Diwali festival in Odisha’s Cuttack.
According to reports, a team of police personnel from Jagatpur carried out raids at some locations in Padmapur and Trilochanpur following information about of illegal sale of firecrackers.
The police team seized a huge quantity of firecrackers worth around Rs 5 lakh during the operation. Crackers were being made, stocked and sole in an unauthorised manner in these areas, known for firecracker business in the region.
As per rules, no one can manufacture or sell firecracker without license. Permission for selling of crackers has to be obtained from the police. Similarly, crackers can be sold only at a designated locations specified by the administration, sources said.
The drive against illegal manufacture and sale of firecrackers will be intensified to prevent unscrupulous traders from exploiting people and carrying out business in a hazardous manner, they added.
