Sundargarh: The six persons arrested for the alleged gangrape of a 17-year-old girl in Odisha’s Sundargarh district were sent to jail after their bail plea was rejected by a special POCSO court.
After the six were arrested in connection with the gangrape, Raghunathpali police forwarded them before the special court in Sundargarh. They were sent in judicial custody after the court rejected their bail applications.
While police on Saturday arrested six persons in connection with the gangrape of the minor girl in Raghunathpali police station area in Rourkela in the intervening night of September 22 and 23, another accused is stated to be at large.
The six accused have been identified as Mohd Sohel Qureshi (21), Md Zaraiat (22), Binod Kumar Ram (35), Deepak Sonkar (19), Md Danish (24), Aftab Khan. All are residents of Rourkela, police said. A motorcycle has been seized from the accused persons, police added.
A police team investigated the scene, collecting vital clues with the help of a scientific team, CCTV footages, call records and dog squad. The team also interrogated eight to 10 persons before arresting the accused.
As per police, the girl, accompanied by two friends visited a a restaurant on September 22 night. Police said that the girl was forcibly made to drink at the bar and restaurant and then kidnapped on a bike by Badsha and his associate, facilitated by two other accused.
They took her to a secluded area near RMC Park, where three individuals raped her. Later, they dropped her at another location, where Deepak Sonkar took her to a lonely place near the Railway Station where he along with another person sexually assaulted her.
