Berhampur: Police have arrested six dacoits including a juvenile and recovered several looted items from their possession in Berhampur city of Odisha’s Ganjam district.
Speaking to media persons on Sunday, Berhampur SP Saravana Vivek M said the police made the arrests following investigation into a complaint filed by Prabhu Prasad Behera of Keshaba Nagar in Lanjipalli under BNPur police station in the city.
As per the complaint, while Prabhu was going on morning walk from his house towards Khajuria road on NH-16 at around 5.30 am 2 days back, six unknown persons came on two motorcycles and stopped him in front of Khajuria Dhaba. They tried to forcibly snatch his gold ring. When he objected, they brought out a pistol and threatened to kill him. They assaulted him and took away Rs 1000 from him.
Gosaninuagaon police registered a case on the basis of the complaint and SP Pradhan, IIC started investigation that led to the arrest of the gang of six dacoits in the age group of 17 to 24 years and the man who had purchased the looted items from them.
The police also recovered 5 motorcycles, 17 mobile phones, gold ornaments of 38 gram, silver ornaments of 55 gm and Rs 3,332 in cash from their possession.
