Malkangiri: At least six people belonging to Chhattisgarh were arrested for their alleged involvement in witchcraft activities in the name of religious ceremony in Odisha’s Malkangiri district.
As per sources, the accused allegedly indulged in witchcraft at Chitapari-4 village under the jurisdiction of Orkel police station in the tribal-dominated district.
The local administration had accorded permission for a three-day religious ceremony in the village. However, witchcraft activities were allegedly conducted on the second day by the accused in the name of religious rituals.
After getting information about this, Orkel police swung into action and formed a special team which raided the site.
The accused were found performing witchcraft using a cot. They also accused an elderly woman of being a witch and forced her to leave the village.
The police team rescued the elderly woman and arrested the six sorcerers. Items used in the witchcraft rituals, including the cot, were seized. The cops also seized a car used by the accused.
All the accused persons were produced before a local court. Further investigation is in progress.
