Paris: At least six people were injured in a knife attack at the busy Gare Du Nord central railway station here on Wednesday.
The attacker was shot and wounded by police, reported AP.
Among those injured in the unprovoked attack with a ‘bladed weapon’ during morning rush hour was a police officer, Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin told newspersons at the scene, flanked by Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo.
The unnamed assailant was currently in hospital ‘between life and death’ after being shot in the chest by cops, the minister was quoted as saying by French media.
Thanking the police for their ‘effective and courageous’ reaction, Darmanin said there would have surely been fatalities without the swift intervention. The suspect was neutralised within minutes of attacking his victims.
One man stabbed outside the station was the only person who sustained serious wounds in the attack, officials said.
No motive of the attack has been suggested yet by authorities.
Police are investigating whether the attack merited attempted assassination charges.
France has witnessed a spate of deadly terror attacks since 2015.
