Balasore: Police on Wednesday claimed to have cracked the broad daylight heist at Chandaneswar Union Bank of India branch at Talasari in Odisha’s Balasore district in April this year with the arrest of six persons.
While three accused belong to Nachinda, Routmandaruni and Baharda in Balasore, the others are natives of Dantan and Janput in West Bengal. Police also seized 300 gm gold ornaments, three pistols, nine mobile phones, four bikes and Rs 6.2 lakh cash from them.
Addressing a presser, Balasore SP Sagarika Nath said the accused were earlier involved robbery at State Bank and Baroda Bank in Basta, Bhograi UCO Bank and gold shops in West Bengal. Efforts are on nab others involved in the case, she added.
On April 26, gun-toting miscreants looted about Rs 40 lakh along with jewellery post noon when customers along with the staff were inside the bank branch in Chandaneswar area within Talsari marine police limits. Initial investigation had suggested the number of miscreants could be between six and eight. They all came on two-wheelers and the whole operation lasted for 30-40 minutes. The robbers had also disconnected power supply and snapped CCTV camera cables inside the bank as they collected cash and jewellery from the locker room after locking the entrance gate from outside.
